Happy New Year! We hope that 2022 started with a bang and you’re currently planning the year of your dreams. Every year people promise themselves many things and often by February it’s already forgotten. This year, we have your back! Below we have listed some excellent TEFL goals and how to stick to them - we can’t wait to hear about all the exciting things you achieve in 2022!!

Check out our 5 goals for 2022:

1. Be a Cultural Ambassador

Share your experience with others! Going to teach English is more than just teaching and travelling. There is so much you can learn from your students and their experiences. Immerse yourself into the culture of the country you are visiting and take what you learn with you wherever you go, perhaps try learning the language!

2. Encourage Human Interchange

With your students, brainstorm and discuss issues that are currently occurring. This exchange of insightful conversation will not only help them develop their English skills but their critical thinking, confidence, and much more! Plus you will learn so much about your students and cultivate their individuality.

Topics for discussion could include:

  • Ensuring a clean planet for ourselves and future generations

  • Understanding world conflicts and leading them towards peaceful relations

  • Facing human rights challenges across different cultures

  • Dealing with cultural conflicts at home

3. Awaken Curiosity in Your Students

Curiosity is a sure path to learning. Create engaging materials and activities to implement into your lesson, your students will become interested in the language and more motivated to learn how to speak it and use it. You can do this by making sure the materials you use are relevant to your students, by areas such as age group, culture or personal interests.

4. Develop a Teaching Niche

Stand out from the crowd! If you want to earn more money as an English teacher, you should consider developing a teaching niche. This means that you’ll specialise in a specific area of teaching, such as Teaching Business English, Teaching With Limited Resources, Teaching Young Learners or Teaching English Online.

You can develop a teaching niche by completing a course in these subjects and gaining a qualification. By becoming an expert in a specific area of English teaching, you’ll be a more competitive job applicant.

5. Teach Abroad

After a difficult couple of years, travel is now open! 2022 is ready to present new opportunities for teachers who want to travel the globe. You can start preparing for a potential move by considering a teach abroad timeline, which will help you to be ready to relocate when the chance comes. International schools and language institutes are slowly reopening or preparing to reopen this year, so now is a great time to start the application process to get a job teaching English abroad. Check our job listings and start applying now.

Consider new year’s resolutions and new teaching goals that are rewarding and create a lifetime’s worth of memories! Become an even better teacher than before and take care of yourself. Let’s make this year a great one! Do you have more goals? We would love for you to share them with us here.
